If you’ve been around the health and wellness space long enough, you’ve probably heard discussion of Shilajit—the mysterious, tar-like resin found seeping out of the Himalayan mountains. Well my friends, for thousands of years, it’s been used in Ayurvedic medicine as a rejuvenator, a brain booster, and an anti-aging powerhouse. Today, modern science is finally catching up, pointing to fulvic acid—which is the active compound inside Shilajit.

But let’s break this down in a way that makes sense, not just as another “miracle supplement" in this world of "Trends". Shilajit specifically, is something I’ve personally leaned on in my own healing journey.

.

What Exactly is Shilajit?

Shilajit is formed gradually over centuries, as plants decompose between layers of rock in high mountain ranges. The result is a sticky, mineral-rich resin containing over 80 trace minerals and yes, fulvic acid. This acid acts as a potent driver for cellular energy and detoxification.

Think of it like nature’s delivery driver—transporting nutrients into your cells, removing waste, and improving how your mitochondria (a.k.a. your little energy factories) creates clean & efficient energy.

Why Fulvic Acid is a Key

Some great research I have gone through shows that fulvic acid may:

  • Boost mitochondrial function → think more clean energy and less fatigue. (Take the 1987 study by S. A. Visser that demonstrated that fulvic and humic acids—at concentrations between 40 – 400 mg/L—stimulated mitochondrial respiration and improved oxidative phosphorylation efficiency in rat liver mitochondria, particularly after one hour of exposure.)

  • Increase nutrient absorption → get more out of the foods and supplements you already take.

  • Support detox pathways → binds to heavy metals and helps escort them out.

  • Balance the gut → it has mild prebiotic properties that feed healthy bacteria.

  • Improve brain health → a Study suggests it may slow down tau protein buildup linked with Alzheimer’s.

How I’ve Used It in My Own Life

When I was healing from cancer and navigating autoimmunity, my energy was in the actual basement. My body felt like garbage, no matter how much I ate or rested, my cells weren’t absorbing what I gave them. Shilajit was an element I decided to incorporate.

I didn’t treat it as a magic wand—but I noticed shifts. My energy had more stability, my recovery from fasting improved, and even my gut health seemed more resilient. Sometimes our Cells simply need the “keys to the door” for the nutrition we work so hard on.

Today, I still rotate Shilajit and fulvic acid into my protocols. I especially like it as a day starter or Pre-Workout on occasion.

What You Should Know Before Trying It

  • Quality matters → Not all Shilajit is pure. Look for lab-tested resin (not powder) from a trusted source, free of contaminants.

  • Start low → A pea-sized amount of resin or a few drops of fulvic acid solution is plenty to begin with.

  • Consistency over excess → I find it better used daily in small amounts than in huge sporadic doses.

  • Pair it with whole health practices → Sunlight, clean food, and movement are the foundation. Shilajit is a tool, not the toolbox.

I leave you with this,

Shilajit and fulvic acid are not new—they are in fact beautifully ancient. What’s exciting is how modern science is confirming what Ayurveda knew all along: minerals and compounds from the earth can profoundly influence our energy, resilience, and longevity.

Allow this to be a reminder that healing often comes from reconnecting with what’s been under our feet all along—minerals, earth, and nature’s intelligence. Now Respect the Beautiful Organism that is YOU!

Happy Healing,

-Britt
